Profile type: Business offer

Annotation

UK company offers a portable water purification system in a bottle based on an innovative charged layer membrane filter constructed using nanotechnology. The replaceable filter cartridge removes well in excess of 99.9% of all microbiological contaminants and comes in 2 sizes. Each filter delivers clean, safe drinking water for up to 3 months. The company is seeking commercial development opportunities with distributors to help them develop their sales in overseas markets.

Offer description

The UK company designs and manufactures a personal water filtration system contained in a convenient lightweight bottle. The system will filter any non-salt water source, anywhere in the world. The water bottle comes in 2 formats: 50cl weighing just 98 gms and a 75cl version at 138 grams with filter. The replacement filters are sold in various packaged versions: single use, or 12 month supply. The filter lasts approximately 2-3 months, filtering 130-200 litres of water in its life cycle (depending on size of the filter, the smaller bottle has a smaller capacity filter). The system delivers filtered water at under £0.05 (€0.06) (June 2016 conversion rate) benefitting the consumer’s health and wealth. To address the huge market potential for the products, the company has established a strategy that targets three important sectors in Europe and the developed world: travel, outdoor and sports/leisure. Within these key markets, the company has used key, industry specific ambassadors and opinion-leading retail clients, leading to a rapid establishment of the brand awareness, creating credibility and the desire to purchase. The approach combines traditional wholesale models with newer customer engagement methods such as referral partnerships and affiliates sales. High levels of activity in social media combined with the establishment of multiple e-commerce platforms has proven successful to establish the brand and develop sales in all markets. In addition, there is also an ongoing revenue stream from the sale of replacement filters. In everyday use, with a consumer drinking 2 litres of water per day, each user requires a minimum of 4 filters per year. Innovative web-registration techniques and 'reminder' software have been developed to promote filter replacement via the company’s localised websites in the UK and abroad. The filters cannot be used on any other bottle or filtering device, securing the revenue streams mentioned. The company is looking to add more distributors across the world, working together with partners to increase expansion thanks to local market knowledge, sales know-how and infrastructures.

Innovations and advantages

The filter medium was originally developed for NASA. Using a combination of three filtration technologies the filter will eliminate well in excess of 99.9% of bacteria, protozoa, cysts and viruses, chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride, heavy metals such as copper and lead, & pesticides. No batteries or power is required and there is no waiting time - once the membrane is wet, filtration is instant. Simply drinking via the spout draws water through the filter delivering potable water from any non-salt water source. The bottle is portable, lightweight and convenient, making it a practical device for a wide range of applications. The filtration has been tested using water from many sources including ponds, streams, rivers, lakes, and swimming pools. The filtration is equally efficient on tap water from domestic water supplies anywhere in the world, delivering safe potable drinking water. Tests to international standards have been carried out and results confirmed in the USA, India and in Europe at the highly respected London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine. The products are competitively priced to ensure wide market penetration and accessibility. It is environmentally friendly and economical: the bottle is fully reusable and BPA-free (bisphenol A). One bottle replaces hundreds of single-use bottles and hence is better for the environment, dramatically reducing plastic waste.

Area of partner's activity

The company is seeking distributors with local knowledge, know-how and contacts in one or more of these areas: Outdoor: offering a simple, convenient, lightweight solution to consumers who can fill up at any source and filter the water immediately. Sport and Leisure: offering rehydration while exercising indoors whilst avoiding shared taps and water fountains which carry bacteria and may be contaminated. Access to clean water in outside sports is often an issue. The company seeks representatives that could secure high-profile personalities and testimonials for further endorsement of the product. Suitable partners could also secure editorials in specialist magazines and blogs, featuring and promoting the products. Travel: travellers are at risk when the quality of available water is uncertain or unknown. The company welcomes distributors who can target this market by promoting the simple solution of filtering non potable water from aircraft bathrooms; of saving money during family holidays by not having to purchase bottled water. The company is particularly interested in the Baltics states, Finland and Denmark but will consider interests from all other Europe and the rest of the world apart from Sweden, Norway, UK, Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Benelux, Spain, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, India, China, Taiwan,, Mexico and New Zealand.
