Offer description

The Italian company was founded in 2008 by two engineers expert in road and environmental quality improvement matters. Its mission is to develop and realise technology solutions for Smart Cities in the field of intelligent mobility: traffic flow monitoring, parking management and traffic light control. These systems are based on wireless sensor networks. The strategy is to stay focused on research and development of hardware devices in order to guarantee high quality products to system integrators and end-to-end solution providers. The first type of sensor developed by the company was for traffic flow monitoring. This is a patented triple-technology wireless sensor which can detect vehicles in transit with very high accuracy, thanks to a combination of optical, infrared and magnetic technologies. Subsequently a new version of the sensor was created to detect also parked vehicles. A new algorithm is used to process information and guarantee high level performance in vehicle detection. At present the company owns a family of products created for road traffic monitoring (infomobility), smart parking management and intelligent traffic light control. From the integration of traffic sensors with traffic light controllers, the company built a complete system for real time traffic management at crossroads.The minimal architecture configuration is set so that the sensor, which is installed in the road surface, will communicate the detected traffic data to a hub, which is typically placed into the traffic light controller box. Staying focused on the hardware components of the system gives the company the possibility to obtain the best products with very high detection accuracy. As a consequence, the company needs to be surrounded by (and open to) many partners in order to realise well rounded projects for Smart Cities together. The company has built a strong network of partners in its local market. The main goal now is to find international partners that could introduce the company to foreign markets under both commercial agency or distribution services agreements. The preferred type of partner would be a systems integrator or a company supplying and maintaining traffic light control systems at regional or national level.

Innovations and advantages

It has been proved that adaptive UTC (Urban Traffic Control) systems are able to reduce the average travel times in the city up to 20%. This management can be reliable only if a great number of sensors are spread on the urban territory. Presently, the detection devices are represented by inductive loops, but they have showed many problems such as intrusive and long-lasting installation works, high rate of failure, high costs and poor performance during traffic congestions. Due to these reasons, wireless sensors are an excellent alternative for loop replacement, in order to improve adaptive UTC systems. The main distinguish feature of this new technology are: 1. Optical detection Inductive loops (and magnetic sensors in general), as well as image processing cameras have poor performances when vehicles are too close. Optical and infrared detection guarantees excellent performances of the device in congested traffic conditions. 2. Wireless communication Wireless transmission at 868 MHz enables a direct communication from the sensors to the interface devices even at great distances from the traffic controller (beyond 150 m) without radio repeater nor wired connections, which are typical of inductive loops.

In this way the integrator will be able to grow its business offering a high innovative solution and the company will expand its market beyond its national borders - Providers of different kind of sensors who want to expand their product portfolio to cover the whole market demand. The commercial/distribution agreement will be defined taking account of very competitive prices for the traffic sensors reserved to the partners, who will take care of the commercial activity and customer service in their countries. The Italian company is currently looking for international partners who can support the distribution of Sky Light Intersection System abroad. Ideal partners would be system integrators willing to assemble and sell an end product to municipalities, public administrations and road managers, as well as providers of different kind of sensors who want to expand their product portfolio to cover the whole market demand.
