A French SME near Paris, specialized in the conception and installation of substrate for sports fields has developed a new substrate for natural grass for sports fields and playgrounds. The product is an alternative to artificial turf and offers competitive advantages such as comfort, stability, durability, water consumption, resistance to pollution and costs. They are looking for distributors.
The French SME, located close to Paris, specialized in the conception of substrate for sports fields since 1984, has just developed a new substrate for natural turf. This new substrate is the result of a new formulation research and is made of silica sand, textile fibers and particles of recycled or retreaded tyres. Combined with natural grass, the new substrate offers an alternative to artificial turf and traditional natural grass. It allows then better comfort and soil stability than an artificial turf, costs less and lasts longer. It allows water saving and a better resistance to pollutants than traditional natural grass. The product is designed for sports fields and children playgrounds and the company is continuing the process of development of the substrate to use a variety of sand types found in different regions. At present the company sells the substrate in France and French overseas territories but is now interested in expanding to new markets and seeks distributors in a range of countries, who are able to sell the product to sports grounds, public authorities and other relevant target groups and who can either install the substrate themselves, or have sufficient contacts at regional level to do so.
Innovations and advantages
The main advantages are about : - Comfort for users like sportsmen: like artificial turf, this solutions offers a shock absorption of about 70% compared to 40% to 60% for natural grass - Lifetime of sports field or children playground: the new substrate combined with natural grass has a long lifetime, depending on its maintenance, whereas artificial turf lasts at most 12 years. Of course natural grass has its own lifetime which can be unlimited, but this needs excellent maintenance. - Water consumption for maintenance of the ground: compared to simple soils, the new substrate, by combining silica sand, textile fibers and recycled rubber, offers an excellent diffusion of fluids like air and water. - Better resistance to pollution: the recycled rubber can absorb some phytosanitary pollutants, nitrates and phosphates from fertilizers. - Cost. The m²’s cost of this new soil combined with natural grass is 60% below the m²’s cost of artificial turf.
Current stage of development
The French SME continues to develop this substrate with different categories of silica sand in order to be able to make the new substrate with local sand for each client, everywhere in Europe.
