Manufacturer of small wind turbines from Estonia produces three types of electrical small wind turbines with nominal power of 2, 10 and 50 kW. All of them are small wind turbines with designed lifetime of 20 years. 2 kW small wind turbine has rotor diameter of 4 m and is based on famous DIY Piggott design. For 10 kW turbine the rotor diameter is 10 meters and annual energy production at 7 m/s average wind speed is 37 555 kWh. For 50 kW unit the rotor diameter is 16 meters and annual energy production at 6 m/s is 104 195 kWh. The towers are either 18 or 22 m with hydraulic lift mechanism or 36 m for 50 kW model. Main customers are small households, rural or chain businesses, farms. The company is mainly interested in the following collaboration types: 1) Distribution service agreement under which sales, installation and maintenance services from the partner under the guidance and training from the Estonian company should be provided; 2) Outsourcing agreement that is more focused on installation and maintenance that should be provided by the partner company; and The company is looking for local representatives and these types of collaborations in different countries because legislation for wind energy installations varies in countries and also due to the fact that local companies have better access to domestic market and can add premium value to the clients. Therefore, local partners would have better resources to understand the local context and increase the company’s sales.
Innovations and advantages
The main advantage compared to competitors is that the company can receive approximately 25% lower manufacturing and installation cost per kW installed (depending on the country) (comparison done according to the World Wind Energy Associations Small Wind World Report, 2016). The price reduction also comes from long partnership with local industrial partner who manufactures the components and lower labor costs. Another advantage is the tower height – 18 or 36 meters accordingly, that enables to use higher wind speeds and generate more energy. Besides, the company can also present a history of successful integration with solar energy and battery storage systems in Estonia and Finland and flexibility in providing custom solutions. Almost all installed wind turbines have been customized for the clients’ needs. Competitive advantage also comes from Intertek (Reference number SE-1312002-2, IEC/EN 61400-12-1:2006) certified power curve and International Electrotechnical Commission´s (IEC) reference sound level below 45 dBA at 60 meters.

The sought partner is a private company engaged in trade in the renewable energy sector. The company should be capable of either project management, marketing and sales or installation and maintenance (or all of the above) of small wind turbines with cooperation from manufacturer. The sought collaboration types are distribution device agreements and outsourcing agreements. Under distribution service agreement the partner is expected to sell, install and maintain the wind turbines. Under outsourcing agreement installation and maintenance of the turbines is expected.
